About AJ Howard
Hello, and welcome to my about page
A former professional photographer
in the UK & US, I gave up this career
(following bad advice from doctors)
in the mid 1990s.
With multiple health issues
I was in between jobs & wrote Oh Bugger!
(this was my first book)
The title was blasted by bookshops
as too rude
so I created an alternate title:
Click! Personality Trip (in ebook format)
Two years later I created
the Louis the Furred Trilogy
& finally I created the complex Asylum Years
(50+ short stories)
I drew all the illustrations myself, I've been scribbling ideas since I was a kid. I've always been a visual thinker, hence the photographic career & later the illustrated storytelling books.
I rewrote all my books & they were published between 2011 & 2013
I was expecting to get an agent
and everything to take off
but due to poor self esteem
& being undiagnosed KS XXY (see below)
for decades, I haven't chased my dream.
However I do intend to try again,
since my diagnosis I am building confidence (from the KS XXY treatments) I feel alive, finally...
My writing style is contemporary my Fat Mouse character appears in everything I write
-in one way or another-
& a common theme of searching for the meaning of life reflects my personality.
I was late diagnosed (2017)
with the congenital intersex condition Klinefelter's Syndrome* KS XXY
This finally explains my health issues
& wondering nature...
I became a trustee for the Klinefelter's Syndrome Association Charity UK in 2019
We are run entirely by volunteers
I created a KS XXY Awareness Day Presentation
(on behalf of the KSA Charity)
in May 2022 (using puppets)
It was seen globally to highlight
the importance of an early diagnosis (something that I was denied by ignorant doctors)
